JACKSON LAMB. ASSET OR LIABILITY?

So, the quite wonderful Slow Horses Season 4 has come to an end. If you haven’t been watching Apple’s award winning show, seriously, what are you playing at?  Do it, now. If you have been glued to the latest series, read on.

ASSET OR LIABILITY?

His bosses at MI5 quite clearly see  Lamb as yesterday’s man, irrelevant, a liability, a dead man walking.

Old. And ‘Old Man’ if you pardon the very obvious and, of clueless, intended pun. In many ways, Lamb is a metaphor for how experienced employees are viewed in so many workplaces today.

WASTED WISDOM

Put out to pasture at Slough House (poor Slough, associated with the end of the line yet again), marginalised, charged with managing the rejects. Scrap heaped because of his protected characteristics. And as a result prevented from passing on so much wisdom. Why do employers so readily fail to capitalise on the years of knowledge and experience that exists within their own organisations?

MIDDLE MANAGER MADNESS?

Too often, over zealous middle managers ditch the assets that are staring them in the face when the opportunity to unleash years of experience is readily at their disposal.

Experience that would enhance their businesses and, more importantly, their younger employees. What a criminal waste of learning.

Let’s be honest, River Cartwright would be fucked without Jackson Lamb.

We have all had a Jackson Lamb in our lives; inappropriate, inconsiderate, in our face.

But aren’t we all better for the experience, better for the lessons learned ?

If we silence the Lambs, where do we all end up ?

SHARING THE WISDOM

The founders and friends of The Silver Academy believe our longer serving peers, have a vital role to play in the workplace.

Sharing the wisdom. Building intergenerational bonds.  Whatever age, gender or peculiar characteristic. Together we can make the work place better, smarter, more productive, more profitable. Because right now, if we don’t push back on ageism in the workplace, it really will be Lambs to the slaughter.

We look forward to another series of Slow Horses.
